A boutique tea company was looking for ways to grow its sales. They had a wonderfully packaged product that was very high quality tea.
As it was approaching Christmas at the time, we decided a simple thing to do would be to identify a target customer base that might consider using this tea as corporate gifts for their customers.
We decided the smaller medical businesses such as pathology firms were ideal targets among a few other companies. We decided to do a direct mail campaign of just 100 initially to test the market.
We included a pack of tea along with carefully worded letter. Within weeks we had three companies call and place orders with one order being for $3000. The exercise cost the company less than $500.
The success was the result of getting the target audience right and creating a compelling sales letter.
